I am new to video although I've worked with digital audio for years and stills in Producer. So I was happy to see this book available. I did get a Douglas Spotted Eagle training DVD with the DVD and liked his style and found the information he provided to be of much help, but it didn't go far enough.

I bought Vegas 9 from Videoguys in November and it came with zip documentation except the cryptic CD manual that Sony ought not include. If you have a 'RED' camcorder you may like this book, but if you own an AVCH camcorder like me, this may not be the book for you. The general practical teaching segments of the DVD where recorded in a strange format and refused to play on 'media player' within windows 7.Īrchitect 5 which is part of Vegas pro 9 barely gets a mention. The best filmed teaching sequences were on the subject of 'RED' and 'Production Manager'. What items did play on the DVD were of poor quality and mostly of no interest. The DVD that came with the book was covered in binders glue.
Many of the examples and photo snapshots in the book are taken from earlier versions of Vegas and bare little resemblance to the boxes that open within Vegas pro 9. AVCH from what I can see is covered in only two pages. Bread and butter topics are scattered and therefore difficult to find. There are too many examples of 'RED' and third party software.

I bet you can guess why I didn't !Īs on owner of a Canon S11 AVCH camcorder I was looking for a book that would give me guidance on how to use my footage with Vegas pro 9 but this book disappointed. I would have loved to have submitted this as a video review. Or perhaps I will end up browsing through this tome and deciding to splurge on the program it is actually about. Perhaps I am too old and stupid to learn how to edit and author my own videos. In fairness, it took me over a day of thinking "Why doesn't my screen look like the one in the book?" before reality finally dawned. And I cannot return it because I only became aware of the mis-match once I had tried to load demos from the enclosed (sealed) CD.

But to me, right here and now, all it offers are questions (e.g: "I wonder if you can do that in Movie Studio 9?) rather than answers.
There are similarities, and I'm sure the book has a lot to offer. So it's a bit like buying a Volkswagen together with a Porsche workship manual. The program the book is about costs about 500 quid. The program I bought together with the book costs about 50 quid. I thought, being a beginner, the two editing programs are pretty much the same. The book is actually about using Sony Vegas Pro 9. This book is suggested by Amazon as a companion purchase to Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack.
